What is the difference between a Hoist and a Winch?
A hoist is used solely for lifting (geared lift) and has a locking brake that can support a hanging load. A winch on the other hand is geared for pulling a load and uses a dynamic brake that must slide.When it comes to hoists and winches it is important to be able to recognize the difference between them. There are many variations of winches and hoists including how they are operated (manually, electric and pneumatic) and the material or finish such as stainless steel or galvanized finish.
The correct winch or hoist for the application depends on what is being pulled or lifted, how often, environment and user preference.
